7 Hassle-free Ways for Pensioners to Submit Jeevan Praman Patra Life Certificate

Receiving a pension is a vital source of financial security for retirees, and to continue enjoying this benefit, pensioners must submit a life certificate annually. This certificate verifies their existence and ensures that pension disbursals continue smoothly. As of November 1, the window for submitting the life certificate has opened for pensioners under the age of 80, a process that involves nearly 69.76 lakh central government pensioners. To facilitate this process, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) has introduced various methods through which pensioners can submit their Jeevan Praman Patra life certificates.

Seven Convenient Methods for Submitting Life Certificates

  1. Jeevan Pramaan Portal: The Jeevan Pramaan portal is an online platform that allows pensioners to submit their life certificates digitally. This user-friendly platform streamlines the process, making it efficient and accessible.
  2. “UMANG” Mobile App: The UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance) mobile app is another convenient option for pensioners. It provides a user-friendly interface for submitting life certificates, making the process even more accessible.
  3. Doorstep Banking (DSB) Agent: Pensioners can opt for the Doorstep Banking (DSB) service to have agents come to their homes to collect their life certificates. This approach adds an extra layer of convenience, especially for those who may face challenges visiting government offices.
  4. Biometric Devices at Post Offices: Some post offices are equipped with biometric devices that enable pensioners to submit their life certificates with ease. This method ensures secure and reliable verification.
  5. Video-Based Customer Identification Process: For those who prefer a more interactive approach, a video-based customer identification process is available. It allows pensioners to verify their identity using video communication, making the process efficient and secure.
  6. Face Authentication: Face authentication is a modern and secure method for verifying one’s identity. This option is available for pensioners who are comfortable with facial recognition technology.
  7. Physical Life Certificate Forms at Branches: For those who prefer traditional methods, physical life certificate forms are available at designated branches. While this approach may require a visit to the branch, it offers a tangible option for submission.

Nationwide Campaign to Promote Digital Life Certificates

To encourage pensioners to embrace digital methods like the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) and Face Authentication technology, the DoPPW has launched a nationwide campaign from November 1 to 30, 2023. This campaign is being conducted in 100 cities across the country to reach 50 lakh pensioners. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the benefits and convenience of digital submissions.

Submission Deadlines Based on Age

For pensioners below the age of 80, the submission window for life certificates is from November 1 to November 30. However, super senior citizens aged 80 and above have the privilege of submitting their life certificates from October 1, allowing for more flexibility. Despite the differing start dates, the final deadline for all pensioners remains November 30. This measure was introduced in 2019 to accommodate the unique needs of senior citizens aged 80 and above.

Consequences of Missing the Deadline

Pensioners must be vigilant about meeting the submission deadlines. If the deadline is missed, pension disbursals will be temporarily halted from the following month. However, once the life certificate is submitted, pension payments will be promptly resumed.

Life Certificate Submission for EPS Pensioners

Pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) ’95 have the flexibility to submit their life certificates at any time. These certificates will remain valid for one year from the date of submission, offering convenience and flexibility to EPS pensioners.

Conclusion

Ensuring the timely submission of life certificates is crucial for pensioners to continue receiving their much-needed financial support. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare has introduced various methods to make this process more accessible and efficient, including digital options, doorstep services, and traditional paper forms. The nationwide campaign further promotes the benefits of digital submissions, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the submission deadlines. By using these convenient methods, pensioners can ensure the uninterrupted flow of their pension payments, providing them with the financial security they deserve in their retirement years.
