As of 09.08.2021, an IEC code holder must ensure that the details in the IEC code are updated annually between April and June. Even if there is no change in the IEC details, the update must be confirmed online.<\/p>\n<p>As we discussed on our social media, the DGFT website has not been functioning correctly for the past two days, and people have been experiencing difficulties updating their IEC code. Now, finally, <strong>DGFT has announced an extension of this IEC due date to 31st August 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although no notification has been issued for the same, the update is available on the DGFT ticker update as follows:<br \/>\n<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><strong>In continuation of the DGFT notification no.<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a016\/2015-2020 Dt.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>09.08.2021, this is to inform you that the last date for modification\/ updation of IEC has been extended up to 31st August 2021<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Download the IEC Renewal due date notification from the Government of India, the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.<\/h2>\n<p>The Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) is a key business identification number required for Exports or Imports. The IEC Number is issued by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade). Without a valid IEC number, no import or export transactions can happen.<\/p>\n<p>An IEC holder must ensure that the details in their IEC are updated electronically annually during the April-June period. In cases where there are no changes in IEC details, they also need to be confirmed online. Non-renewal will result in the deactivation of the IEC.<\/p>\n<p>The intent to deactivate the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kanakkupillai.com\/iec-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong> IEC registration<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>is to delete inactive IECs and incorrect IEC details. The process of updating is quite simple as there is no additional compliance. The whole process is online and this process can be completed within 30 minutes if all details are correct.<br \/>\nThere are no charges for IEC updating.<\/p>\n<p>IECs not updated before August would be deactivated post-August. If the IECs are to be reactivated (post-deactivated), then the IECs should be updated.<\/p>\n<h2>New Amendments for Import Export Code<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Importer Exporter Code (IEC) is obligatory for export\/ import from\/to India as specified in the Policy.<\/li>\n<li>DGFT issues Importer Exporter Codes in electronic form (e-IEC) where the Application for issuance of e-IEC can be made instantly on the DGFT official Notification.<\/li>\n<li>Amendment in the name of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kanakkupillai.com\/iec-registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>Import Export Code Online<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (IEC), as now it is Importer-Exporter Code (IEC)\/(e-IEC)<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, the application process for IEC and its upgradation is entirely online, and the applicant can generate an IEC according to the procedure detailed in the Handbook of Procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"documents-required\" class=\"container-fluid\">\n<h2 class=\"top1\">Consequences of Non-Renewal of Import Export Code<\/h2>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12\">Importers and exporters who hold an IEC Code or license must ensure timely renewal, as an expired Importer Exporter Code is treated the same as not having any IEC code. If you continue to run an import-export business without timely renewal, your IEC code will be deactivated by DGFT. It may result in unnecessary hustle as the IEC code is required for customs, shipping, and international trade. So, it is best advised to renew and update the IEC code in due time to avoid cancellation or deactivation of your code.
