E-Visa for India

4 Mins read

With its rich heritage, a wealth of historical buildings, diverse landscapes, and spiritual opportunities, India fascinates and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Making travel to India from abroad easier, the Government of India introduced the E-Visa, which is now helping build digital diplomatic and tourism connections. Any foreign citizen who meets the requirements for the Indian e-Visa may apply online and avoid visiting the embassy or consulate.

Here, I describe what the E-Visa for India is about, its rules, who is allowed to use it, and why it has become so convenient for many foreign travellers.

What is an E-Visa when talking about India?

Foreigners can get the E-Visa for India from the Indian government to attend tourism, business, medical, or conference events in the country. Launched in 2014, E-Visa eliminates the previous paper-based process and allows users to work with an easier and quicker method.

After the visa is approved, it is given out in the form of a PDF document sent by email and attached to the traveller’s passport. Visitors to India are required to have a printed copy of their e-Visa.

Types of Indian E-Visas

India offers various types of E-Visas, depending on the visitor’s intended activities. All visas are assigned special eligibility rules, as well as the maximum amount of time you are allowed to remain in the country.

1. E-Tourist Visa

Most people use this kind of E-Visa. It is designed for visitors to India for vacations, sightseeing, or to see friends and relatives or take part in a short yoga session. Presently, an E-Tourist Visa remains valid for a short period of 30 days or for long-term use of one year, depending on the visitor’s country of origin and the type chosen.

2. E-Business Visa

This is handed to individuals who come to India for business meetings, exhibitions, industry development, or conducting business deals. An E-Business Visa is normally given for a year of multiple entries, but you should not be in the country for more than 180 days on each visit.

3. E-Medical Visa

The permission is granted to foreign nationals who come to India for medical care in an officially recognized medical facility. The E-Medical Visa allows travellers to enter the country three times and is valid for 60 days from the date of first arrival.

4. E-Medical Attendant Visa

Family members accompanying the patient on an E-Medical Visa are also eligible. Just like the E-Medical Visa, the E-Visa for an attendant only lasts for as long as your appointment.

5. E-Conference Visa

It is given to individuals participating in a conference, seminar, or workshop organized by a reputable Indian government agency or international organization. You can enter the country just once using a valid E-Conference Visa for a period of 30 days.

Eligibility Criteria for Indian E-Visa

People from more than 160 nations are eligible for the Indian E-Visa. Still, specific requirements must be met by individuals who wish to apply for student visas.

  • The applicant’s passport should be valid for at least six months after the date when they enter India.
  • At least two blank pages are required on the passport for the immigration officer’s stamp.
  • Those entering the country need to have a ticket that proves they will leave at a later time.
  • The purpose of your trip has to be within the categories allowed for E-Visa holders.
  • Individuals from Pakistan or Pakistani citizens are required to apply for a regular visa instead of an E-Visa.
  • All eligible countries are listed on the official Indian E-Visa website at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in.

Steps to Applying for an Indian E-Visa

It is simple to apply online for the Indian E-Visa and the process can be finished in just a few days.

Step 1: Go to the E-Visa site at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa. Use the website allowed by the government to safeguard yourself from fake services.

Step 2: Choose the E-Visa type that applies to you and enter all your details, such as name, date of birth, passport number, nationality, the dates you plan to travel, the port of entry, and what you want to do in Belgium. Add a fresh picture of yourself taken at a passport office and scan the page labeled “Identity” in your passport.

Step 3: Once you finish the application form, you are required to pay the E-Visa fee. The price of a visa is determined by category and nationality. Customers can use credit/debit cards or online payment methods to make a purchase.

Step 4: Receive Electronic Visa. You should get the E-Visa in your email 3 to 5 days after your application is approved. You should have a printed copy with you when you travel.
