The definition of hell: “On your last day on earth, the person you became, will meet the person you could have become.” heard from someone. It is a thoughtful aphorism that tells you that you will finally come to know whether you have reached your destiny. Nobody can predict their future or how they will live their whole life, but everybody can plan their future, set their goals, chart their path, and achieve them.
Sometimes, to have a better future, instead of adding or following more new things, you must give up or sacrifice some of them. There are a few things that are universal, and they will surely lead you to a better future. Some things are not needed, and they can sometimes lead you in the wrong direction, so by sacrificing all of them, you will definitely lead a successful life. Actually, the definition of success is not the same for all. Here is a list of things that one must sacrifice to have a better and successful future. Some of them are easy to give up, and you can do so even today, while some might take time to give up. It’s all in our hands, to convert ‘IMPOSSIBLE’ as ‘I’m POSSIBLE’
1. The unhealthy lifestyle
As popularly said, ‘Health is wealth’; taking care of your body must be your priority. If you want to be successful in your life or want to lead a better life or whatever, everything starts here. First take care of your health which automatically takes care of your mind, following a healthy balanced diet with adequate physical activity gives your good health.
2. Give up on playing small
“Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone, and as we let our light shine, we unconsciously permit others to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others,” said Marianne Williamson. Trying is more important than dreaming. If you never try anything to achieve your dream, then it will be more difficult to take great opportunities. Let your dreams become realities, improve yourself and your potential towards your goal. Don’t worry about the world that never benefits from what you could have achieved; go on your path and never look back until you reach your destiny.
3. Unwanted excuses
It is not about the opportunities you get; it is all about how you use them and make your life better. Most of the successful people first understand their responsibility and their strength; they don’t bother about their weaknesses, starting point, and past failures. Understand your strength, don’t allow your excuses to overlap with your dream because excuses limit and prevent you from growing professionally and personally. Think about what is next and how to make your life better.
4. Fixed mindset
“The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.” Robert Greene, Mastery. People with a fixed mindset will have the wrong perception that their talents or intelligence are fixed qualities, which creates success without effort, but that’s wrong. Successful people always invest their time in developing and acquiring new knowledge and learn new skills that are useful for their growth and success. They even change their perception if they come across something better than their perception and incorporate it into their life.
5. Don’t believe in the “magic bullet”
Overnight success is a myth. To set a better future, make slight continual improvements every day, which will be compounded as time passes and surely give the desired results. Plan for the future and at the same time focus on the day so that you improve by at least 1% every day.
6. Unnecessary Multi-tasking
“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks,” by Winston S. Churchill. Don’t change your path more frequently; choose one thing and focus on it entirely. Successful people know this; they usually choose one thing and improve themselves to achieve their goals. And it is essential that before selecting the path, you have self-analysis and decide on a field that you are interested in and what you want to become in life. Be fully present and committed to that one task and achieve it. Your future is decided by your present, so plan your present ideally to make your future better.
7. Avoid diversions
Some things can be controlled by us, and some we cannot, but we should not get diverted to the things that we cannot change. Instead, you can modify them as per your needs. Learn to differentiate the things, focus on the ones that you can control, and detach yourself from the things you cannot control. Understand that sometimes, the things that you are able to control are your attitude towards something.
8. Dependency on social media and television
“The trouble is, you think you have time,” by Jack Kornfield. Time is the most principal thing that you have to consider in whatever you do. If you lose time, you won’t get it back, so it is always important to learn how to manage time. In the present era, almost all young people are depending on social media, which consumes their time. If you want to make your future better, don’t waste your time on social media, which is not relevant to your goal. Actually, Impulsive television watching and web browsing are diseases of today’s society. Unless your goals depend on either, you should eliminate or at least minimise your dependency on them, and use that time towards things that help you to improve yourself and have a better future.
9. Don’t say ‘YES’ to things that don’t support your dreams
“He who would accomplish little must sacrifice little; he who would achieve much must sacrifice much; he who would attain highly must sacrifice greatly,” from James Allen, is true. If you want to be successful in the future, you must sacrifice all distractions and unnecessary things. In order to accomplish your goals, you have to learn to say ’NO’ to certain things, activities, tasks, and demands even from your friends, family, and colleagues. Yes! You might need to sacrifice a bit of instant gratification, but when your dreams come to fruition, it’s worth it for a lifetime.
10. Stay away from toxic people
The people you spend most of your time with add up to who you become in the future. There are different kinds of people around you who always spend time with the people who have inspired them in some way or another. By spending more time with people who are more accomplished than you, you will gain valuable experiences, which will make you a better person, and it will help you to become successful.
Good things happen to people who sacrifice things in their lives. If you want, which you never had before, you must do what you’ve never done before. It’s right to give up the right things so you can have a better future. And importantly, don’t let others define what success is but you. Stop being “busy,” instead start being ‘focused’. No matter how you look or from where you come from, the time and effort you put into learning matter to make your future brighter. Give up all the above-mentioned things and spend your time wisely. Plan your goal, give 100% attention to it, and achieve your dream. Enjoy your future.
