How to Get Nativity Certificate in Tamilnadu Online?

A nativity certificate is an official government document that exhibits the domicile or birthplace of a person in a particular state or country. In Tamil Nadu, this certificate is particularly needed by persons who want to enrol in educational institutions, enter government service, or access some state-specific facilities. The said certificate simply asserts that the candidate has been a resident of Tamil Nadu for some time.

Eligible Criteria for Obtaining a Nativity Certificate

As a general rule, the applicant has to fulfil some statutory criteria, which include the following:

  • Proof of Residence: Applicant should be a domicile of Tamil Nadu, however number of years as a minimum can be around five years.
  • Proof of Birth: Only those born in Tamil Nadu or the parents who were living in the state at the time of the applicant’s birth can apply.
  • No Objection from Local Authorities: The local authorities, the Revenue Department or Panchayat, need to verify his or her residential status before the certificate is issued to him or her.

Online Application Process for Nativity Certificate in Tamil Nadu

The government of Tamil Nadu has eased the process of acquiring a nativity certificate by making an online application through TNeGA (Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency).  Here are the steps to follow to apply online for a nativity certificate:

Step 1: Follow the link of the Official TNeGA Portal

To apply for a nativity certificate, first visit the official TNeGA portal at https://www.tnega.tn.gov.in/. The website contains information on different government services, such as applying for a nativity certificate.

Step 2: Create or Login to Your Account

In case you are a first-time user of the TNeGA portal, then he/she has to go for TNeGA registration. Click the “Login/Register” link, fill in your personal details like name, email address, and phone number and choose a password to complete the registration process. If you are an existing user, then log in to access the website.

Step 3: Select the Relevant Service

When logged into the system, look for the part of the website that concerns certificates, and choose the service labelled “Nativity Certificate”. You will be transferred to a reception page that contains a form for you to write down your application information.

Step 4: Fill in the Application Form

The application form for a nativity certificate will ask for the following details:

  • Personal Information: His and her name, sex, date of birth and his and her contact information.
  • Residential Details: Current address and formal details of the time the applicant has been living in Tamil Nadu.
  • Proof of Birth: State whether you are a native /born in Tamil Nadu or come up with documents showing that your parents are inhabitants of the region.
  • Supporting Documents: Make sure to scan and attach your proof of residence such as your Aadhar card, Voter ID, etc., your proof of birth, and other documents proving your relationship with Tamil Nadu.

As a result of payment, one will be issued with a payment confirmation receipt.

Step 7: Submit the Application

If the person has already filled out the form and uploaded all kinds of documents that he or she requires, it is a must to check all the details carefully. After all your records have been checked, submit your application. You will be issued an application number or receipt, which will enable you to follow the status of your application.

Step 8: The verification and approval process

After you have filled out the form and submitted it, the identified authorities shall validate the information you have supplied. This may mean matching your residential proof against town records. Sometimes, you will be required to go through the verification process at the local office, or you will be asked to produce other documents. The verification process usually takes a few days up to a week.

Once all necessary verifications are done and authorities are happy, you will be presented with your nativity certificate. You will be notified of the status of your application via the portal or via your email if you applied in that way.

Step 9: The Nativity Certificate has to be downloaded

After approval, the nativity certificate can be downloaded from the TNeGA portal if it is successful. To do that, you only need to go to the “Application Status” tab, and you will find your certificate available to download in PDF format once you log into the account. After completing the certificate, the certificate can be printed or saved for the future.
