If you have registered your business with Udyam – previously known as Udyog Aadhaar- to avail the MSME benefits, there may come a time when you need to cancel the registration. While Udyam registration provides several advantages, such as easier access to loans, subsidies, and government contracts, tenders, there may be some circumstances that push businesses to change, such as a change in operations, exceeding the MSME eligibility criteria, not meeting the eligibility criteria, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring or even shutting down. In such situations, the Udyam portal allows you to cancel your registration easily. The entire process is easy and can be completed online.
In this blog, we will understand the meaning of Udyam Registration, the reasons for cancellation, the required documents, a step-by-step procedure, what happens after cancellation, and key points to keep in mind.
What is Udyam Registration?
Udyam Registration was introduced in 2020 to replace the older Udyog Aadhaar registration system. It is the government’s official platform for MSME registration. The process is simple and entirely online; it requires only an Aadhaar Card and a PAN number, and minimal documents.
Once your business is registered with Udyam, it is assigned a unique Udyam Registration Number (URN) and a certificate is given for registration, which can be used to claim the benefits:
- Easier accessibility to loans
- Access to government schemes like Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Micro and Small Enterprises, Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP) and Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP).
- Protection against late payments from their clients,
- ISO certification reimbursement
- Priority in government procurement and tenders,
- Easy access to collateral-free loans,
- Preference in resolution processes under the MSMED Act, 2006
