How to Update Your Aadhaar Card Details – UIDAI

Update your Aadhaar Card Details Online

The Indian residents can also change their address online through the Self-Service Update Portal provided by UIDAI. It is primarily applicable to individuals who frequently relocate.

What Aadhaar Details Can Be Changed Online?

As stated by UIDAI, one can only update the address online. When you have to update any of the following, you have to attend an Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre:

  1. Name
  2. Birthdate
  3. Gender
  4. Mobile Number
  5. ID of the email

1. Steps to Update Address in Aadhaar Card Online

  1. Go to Aadhaar Self-Service Update Portal.
  2. Select the “Update Address” option button, and then select the “Request Address Validation Letter” option.
  3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.
  4. Type the captcha and press the button for OTP (One-Time Password).
  5. Log in with the OTP that you will receive at your registered mobile number.
  6. Click on Submit and select Address, which is the detail to be updated.
  7. Type in the required address in the new residence and use the button labelled “Submit Update Request.”
  8. You can edit details through clicking on the option of Modify.
  9. Post a scanned version of an official Proof of Address (PoA).
  10. Select a BPO service provider and click Submit.
  11. Your request will be counter-checked and addressed to UIDAI. You will be issued an Acknowledgment Slip giving a URN (Update Request Number).
  12. This URN can be used to monitor your update status, and you may subsequently download the new Aadhaar card.

Note: It is only the address that can be altered online. The rest of the details will need to be visited at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.

2. How to Update Name in Aadhaar Card?

Correction or change of name in Aadhaar (for example, mismatched name in Aadhaar and PAN card):

  1. Go to the closest Aadhaar Enrolment/ Update Centre.
  2. Complete the Aadhaar Enrolment/Correction Form.
  3. Write your correct name with the right spelling.
  4. Provide a valid document of a Proof of Identity (PoI).
  5. The official will take your request, and an Acknowledgment Slip will be provided.
  6. A small fee of 25 rupees/-.

3. Procedure for Updating Mobile Number in Aadhaar

In the event that you have altered your mobile phone number, you should update your Aadhaar number to be able to receive OTPs and receive services through the government.

  1. Visit the nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
  2. Fill in the Mobile Number Update Form.
  3. Enter your new mobile number.
  4. The executive will enrol the new number and issue you an Acknowledgment Slip containing the URN.
  5. There is a fee of 25/- charges.

4. How to Change Aadhaar Date of Birth (DoB)?

In case your Aadhaar contains a wrong date of birth, then this can be updated offline:

  1. Pay a visit to the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre at your locality.
  2. The Date of Birth Update Form should be filled in correctly.
  3. Provide a valid DoB document (e.g., birth certificate, school certificate).
  4. It will involve taking your biometrics as a verification process.
  5. With URN, an Acknowledgment Slip will be given.
  6. The fee is 25/- only.
  7. The update can constitute 90 days.
