2 Mins read

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is the primary method of retirement planning for employees in India, as the amount assures the monetary stability of an employee in his/her post-retirement period. Employees are the ones who manage their EPF’s Employees Provident Fund Organization, also known as EPFO; for the convenience of the members to check their account balance, EPFO has introduced an e-passbook. EPF e-passbook is an online record that shows the employer and employee’s contribution to the EPF account being maintained. In this blog, we will show you step-by-step instructions on how to download your EPF e-passbook.

Steps to Download the EPF E-Passbook

Follow these simple steps for downloading your EPF e-passbook,

Step 1: Visit the EPFO Member Portal

The first step is to visit the EPFO Member Portal website. Open a web browser and go to the official EPFO website (https://www.epfindia.gov.in/). By searching through the homepage, the “For Employees” is normally displayed at some part of the web page, and therefore, one will have to click on it. Then select the “Member UAN/Online Services’ option next.

Step 2: Log in to Your EPF Account

When you are on the EPFO Member Portal, then you will be asked to login using your UAN (Universal Account Number) Password. You need to activate UAN to avail benefits of new Payroll system, for its details on how to activate your UAN and how to link your UAN with Aadhaar, PAN & Bank Account also. They also can open their EPF account once the UAN is activated.

Step 3: Navigate to the of E-Passbook Section

Upon successful login, you will find different options that exist with respect to your EPF account. The “E-Passbook” or “View Passbook” option is typically found under the “Services” category; once you have located it, click on it.

Step 4: Verify Your Details

After deciding to check on the e-passbook option, you may be required to undergo a credibility test. This may include, for instance, typing your registered mobile number and then receiving an OTP for confirmation. This step needs to be completed with ease; find out that your mobile number is registered with your EPF account.

Step 5: Download the E-Passbook

This verification takes a short time, after which the EPF passbook will be made available to you. This e-passbook will show other details on your account, such as your current balance, the employers’ and employees’ share for the contribution and interest that has been credited. You can view the passbook for the current year on the passbook for the previous years. To download it, you just need to click on ‘Download’, and your EPF e-passbook will be available on your Windows or mobile device in PDF format.

What If You Are Unable to Download the E-Passbook?

Go through the following steps if you experience some problems downloading your EPF e-passbook directly. First of all, you have to check if you are active on the site and if your UAN is associated with your details. Please cross-check with your internet connection and your mobile number in the registration form. If this continues, you can reach the EPF helpdesk or open an issue through the EPF portal to get some help.
